Drowning in Fabric

Forever cleaning, organizing and creating

I’m having some issues.

First, my Supernova.

I was (trying to) participate in the Supernova Quilt along. This was a partner swap where we each make two of six blocks and send each other the duplicates. I was really excited with the fabric and direction it was going. My partner is in the UK (I am US). I sent her my first two blocks, along with goodies, fabric gifts, etc. I haven’t heard from her at all since June. I have emailed many times. I have asked if she got my package. I have gotten nothing – no email, no blocks. I’ve even tried contacting her through an online group we are in (where we partnered up). Nothing. 😦 I don’t know what else to do. I guess give up on her? Finish it myself? 😦 I’m disappointed.

My other issue is my chevron quilt

I love this top. I’ve had it shelved for a long time trying to decide on the back. There was a fabric I wanted to use, but it is HTF and expensive. I had tried to buy it from one online shop that claimed they had ten yards in stock. I ordered five, and got less than 1.5 (in two pieces!). 😦 That’s all they had. I finally did order some more of it somewhere else. I waited, and waited and waited. And about the time I was going to call the company, it finally arrived. Like this:

Thankfully, somehow the fabric was still inside. (Yes, it arrived opened like that! I haven’t touched it.)  The mail is just getting worse and worse. See how it says 2 day? It took almost 15.

I’ve also been working on some blocks from leftover pieces to add into the back:

So, here’s the dilemma. I decided to use this quilt as a thank you to some friends who did me a huge favor. It is sort of a barter of skills. It took them some time to get their project to me, and I’ve sat on this for some time as well (because of the back, and being busy through the summer). Right about the time I was finally buckling down and getting the back started and ordering the fabric, they (shockingly) announced their separation. They’ve only been married two years and seemed like such a great couple. Now I don’t know how to handle this with my debt to them. They both contributed to my part of the trade. Do I still finish the quilt and let them figure it out? Do I make one for each? Do I ask? Forget it? Ideas/ help/wwyd????

Saturday Swap #3

This week I am sharing the Supernova blocks I have made so far for the Supernova Friendship Swap.

I am swapping with Rachael, who is in the UK. We chose to work with Nordika (after many many back-and-forths)

We also debated the background color. I really wanted to go with Burgandy, but we were worried about color matching, so Rachael came up with the idea of using various shades in red/burgandy. She found this cute quilt which we are basing our idea on. Hopefully it comes together as well! So far I love it.

We each make two of the same block each month, then keep one and send the other. We are supposed to have 10 at the end, but we are going to try for 12 so we have a rectangular quilt instead of a square one.

Since we got started late (plus international postage), I went ahead and made my first two and will send them off next week!

OK, your turn! What are you swapping this week?

Here are the link up rules:

1. Link up a post about a recent fabric, block or hand made item swap. You may share both what you sent and received. You may also post about an upcoming swap you are hosting.

2. In the post, link up back here to my blog.

3. (Assuming there are multiple linkups, as this is the first one) Comment on a few other links!

Wip Wednesday: Whole lotta wips going on

So I’ve felt very scattered. I am working on many things at a time. My sewing room and cutting table are a cluttered mess. This is why I often scale back on bees and swaps, but I have myself in a bunch of them right now, and there are a lot of July deadlines.

I am working on the supernova friendship swap. We are working with Nordika. I am loving these blocks, and can’t wait to have them all together! My swap mate is Rachael and she lives in the UK! We were late to join, took time to make a plan, and time for her fabric to get to her, so I am actually making two blocks and sending them together. Check out my bias seam line! I’m getting a lot of practice at this (and getting better!) because….

Mini Quilt Swap

I am also in the mini quilt swap. I am not going to say much about this as my partner is still meant to be secret. The above is my mini quilt top, done with the mini northern lights pattern. As you can see, many seams to line up there! Most were dead on. I did rip and redo a couple rows, and there are a few that are off a tiny bit, but overall I did a good job.

Scrappy Trip Bee

I am working on my trip blocks for my bee. These are three of the six. I was given colors to work with and am pulling from my stash to make them. I can’t believe I am working on another one of these so soon, but again, I couldn’t resist joining. I have a strict color scheme for my blocks. These blocks are quick and fun to make so why not? And good chance to use my stash.

Anchors Aweigh

Well, I didn’t think I would finish my ALOYF goal this month, but I honestly didn’t think I would be this far behind. My quilt is basted and I am still buckling down how I am going to quilt it. I started practicing some designs, and I am a little discouraged. This is going to take a lot of practice and I am especially nervous with how big this quilt is. It is a lot of quilt to be pushing around smoothly through complicated quilting. This is supposed to be done for my mom’s birthday in July, but I just don’t know right now… I don’t want to go with simpler quilting, but I don’t want to ruin it being too ambitious or rushed either.

Sunday Stash: Nordika

I’ve decided to participate in the Supernova Friendship swap as one of the million swaps I joined lately (what am I thinking?). I’ve paired up with Rachael of The Floral Suitcase. She’s in the UK! So I am planning all kinds of goodies to include in the swap. We kind of randomly found each other, but we have a lot of common taste, luckily. After a flurry of emails we have settled on working with Nordika for our swap.

I’ve loved Nordika from the start, but haven’t had excuse to get it yet. So I am so excited to now have the entire collection (plus some solids) in my possession.

(excuse the mess from my economy blocks in the background)

I got a half yard of each, so hopefully I will still have leftovers as well after this project. I was excited I was able to still find it all. I am looking forward to digging in, but we still have to pick our background!
