Drowning in Fabric

Forever cleaning, organizing and creating

Sunday Stash

It’s been a while since I posted Sunday Stash. A lot has come through in that time. LOL. Here are some of my more recent additions…

I went a little overboard on the Craftsy New Year sale…

imageThis was the main reason for my purchase. I actually don’t have any moonshine in my stash. I really didn’t love it and there’s other stuff to buy. But when Craftsy marked down a complete fat quarter bundle to $55 I couldn’t pass that up!

imageI think we all know I have a bit of a crush on Ansonia. I had been hoping this would be the fabric for the new baby’s nursery, but alas, it is yet another boy. I never saw that coming, and this disappointment runs deep. But, Craftsy was selling these partial FQ bundles for $15 or so. I added them in the name of free shipping. I now have a half yard bundle, 2 partial fq bundles and several yardages. I need to find something to do with these soon! They are taking over.

imageThey also had kona solids for $3.60 a yard. You can’t beat that. And as we have learned previously, when they say yard, they mean a cut yard. So I did know I was getting one yard cuts. It still annoys me. But the 2 and 4 yard cuts were closer to $5 a yard. So, I sacrificed continuous yardage for the unbeatable price. I can easily use these yards in block piecing. You can also see on the right some TP Octos I got recently as well at $12 a yard.

imageThis is one of my new additions to my sewing room. I’ve gotten into the facebook yardsale groups and grabbed this up for $15 one day. It isn’t quite the size of the Closetmaid Cubicals so the fabric won’t fit standing up, but will lay flat. This is very heavy filled and I had to move it yesterday to pull out my cutting table and that was difficult. But I am running out of space in my sewing area. However, this did help me get a lot of fabric up off the floor.

Also of note in the two right hand cubes are many fabrics that I got at my LQS’s pre inventory clearance reduction sale. $2 a yard on the clearance room. No lie. I cleaned out several bolts. The Lotta Jansdotter squares will be featured next week in a quilt I made. 🙂

imagePerhaps the most exciting addition… A holiday gift from my mom. I am very excited and intimidated by my fancy new Juki. I’ll probably give it its own post soon….

imageAnd here is (some of) the fabric for the new baby’s room. I have put this off so long… When I had my first son, I was so excited to jump on making the nursery. This time I just don’t have that same excitement… It took a long time to even decide what to do and then to find and settle on some fabric for it. I’m still not really thrilled. I wanted some whales. I wasn’t able to stick to the color scheme I wanted. And these colors seem so similar to my son’s room…

The blue waves I got in the $2 sale. It’ll be the curtains. I cleared out the bolt – 8 yards. The sailboats I had to search hard for. I also got the crabs from the same line (Don’t be Crabby). I had basically given up on sewing at this point in my first pregnancy because I was so big and uncomfortable. I am only just about to get started this time. I am still doing ok (this is a smaller baby) as long as I sit frequently. Pressing and cutting can get hard on my back. But I have a lot to do and time is ticking down.

Sunday Stash: And now for something completely different

OK, First of all, I deserve a freaking medal for resisting this one this week:

image

And they had free shipping on top of that! I almost caved, but by that point most of it had sold out so I decided to just Let It Go!!

So, as I’ve mentioned in my “ignoring my deadlines” Wednesday posts, I needed to buckle down and figure out what I am doing about some of these swap projects I signed up for. I am not sure how much I can say (since it is a secret partner swap) but my schnitzel and boo mini quilt is at the top of the stress list. I thought it was a mid July deadline, but it isn’t. It’s the beginning of the month. So, using my partner’s likes and comments and changing my mind a lot, I finally chose a pattern – Jaybird Quilts Northern Lights. But I needed to get it!

So I packed up the kidlet and headed out to my LQS first thing Monday morning to see if they carry it. I knew they had the large pattern and ruler, so I hoped maybe they would have the minis as well. Well, they didn’t, but they could order it for me. So I had them do that and sweated the wait.

Thursday afternoon I picked them up. The clearance room is getting refilled (they wiped it out a couple months ago) and there are some good things in there, but nothing I was willing to jump on fabric wise. I’m trying to pretend to be good. However,  I did pick up a couple of clearance patterns.

image

Back in the day, before I had the guts to quilt, I used to make doll clothes. I loved the ModKid doll clothes patterns. I really don’t make real people clothes, but I thought the chef set would be darling for the kidlet someday when he is into dress up. And, you know, why not get the skirt? I’ll never make it. I don’t even know if it’ll fit. But there it is. I want to know what she is looking at with such hopeful amusement.

(Back in the day sewing)

They also have these fun buttons. I wanted some of them a few months ago, but didn’t get them and they sold out. So I grabbed a few this time. They are different sayings this time around, but I like these too.

image

And, here is the whole point of my post – My new mini patterns and mini ruler and a sneak peek at my mini quilt (in progress) –

And don’t forget to look for my mini quilt (and link yours!) in a future

Sunday Stash

I got bit by the Memorial Day sales. Oops. First though, my fancy new pictures are courtesy tips from http://www.michellebartholomew.com/, who is also in the new blogger blog hop. As I told her, I am usually taking my pictures at 2am and just throw my fabric wherever. But she made me put more thought into it. I also took them in natural light, and I was skeptical because one of the days it was rainy out. I think they turned out pretty well, yeah?

image

First up, Fat Quarter Shop has been doing flash sales. I jumped in on this one. I love Patty Young. This is textured basics. Unfortunately, a couple sold out before I grabbed these, and the website auto entered .5 for the houndstooth, so I thought that was all they had, but they had more! 😦 Oh well. These are fun and I am loving the bright summer colors.

image

These next several are care of Equilter.com Memorial Day sales. (They take way too much of my money.) These are Alison Glass prints for a future swap. (There’s a hint 😉  )

Other Fun Cheap Stuff

Then, just after I was sure I was going to stop buying stuff for a while, Jimmy Beans Wool had a huge sale. Dudes, the Tula was selling out as I was putting it in my cart! And then I got a twinge of conscience and pared down my cart a bit. It’s been an expensive couple months – not including the fabric….

Here’s the Tula I got. I have all three of the Racoons now. I love those hummingbirds and originally had 2 yards of each in my cart, but cut it back to one.

image

And this is why I placed the order in the first place. Another swap buy. These are Kaffe shot cottons. I’ve never used shot cottons before. They are very thin (as I was warned) but very pretty. I am looking forward to the swap now and glad I am pre-prepared for it! 🙂

Oh, and Jimmy gets the award for fastest delivery! I think I ordered these two or three days ago and they came today!

Sunday Stash: Nordika

I’ve decided to participate in the Supernova Friendship swap as one of the million swaps I joined lately (what am I thinking?). I’ve paired up with Rachael of The Floral Suitcase. She’s in the UK! So I am planning all kinds of goodies to include in the swap. We kind of randomly found each other, but we have a lot of common taste, luckily. After a flurry of emails we have settled on working with Nordika for our swap.

I’ve loved Nordika from the start, but haven’t had excuse to get it yet. So I am so excited to now have the entire collection (plus some solids) in my possession.

image

(excuse the mess from my economy blocks in the background)

I got a half yard of each, so hopefully I will still have leftovers as well after this project. I was excited I was able to still find it all. I am looking forward to digging in, but we still have to pick our background!

Sunday stash – My favorite store is up and running

I had to make a long overdue run to the PO this week for a variety of swaps I needed to send. Since My Favorite Store is right down the street from the PO I figured I’d swing by and see what was going on in there. I hadn’t been there in a while, but the last few times I had been they had mainly drapery and upholstery out.

Well, They still had most of that stuff out, but they had a couple of tables of the cotton remnants. I am not sure if they are in the process of switching over or if they have decided to offer more of a variety at once. The nice thing about only having a couple of tables to search through is that it was a much quicker trip than the 3 or so hours I usually spend hunting there. However I still managed to find plenty and spend a bundle.

Here is what I took home (Though I wanted so much more) These vary from 1/4 yard on up to 2-3 yards of some-

Tula Pink

Tula Pink

This is the 3rd time I’ve found those frogs there. And some Parisville! Ohh!

Sarah Jane

Sarah Jane

I was surprised to find some Wee Wanderer there already.

Lizzy House

Lizzy House

Again, surprised to find Catnap already and excited to find some Outfoxed. Hoping to dig up more of this. I also found some 1001 lamps, but I have a metric ton of it and had a heart to heart with myself about definitely not needing more, not buying it just because I found it, and if I don’t buy it that’s money I can put toward something else.

Heather Ross

Heather Ross

I found a lot of Briar Rose there last fall. This time, some Crafty Chloe and one BR print.

Joel Dewberry

Joel Dewberry

These will come in handy for my Joel Dewberry swap coming up. (There’s one more print that I put in one of the other pictures.)

Assorted designers

Oh, Wrenly. You get me every time. And Lemon Grove. And Masha D’yans. And Belle.

More nice assorteds.

Sunday Stash

Despite my attempts to stay away, the sales keep getting me… My two favorites are up this week.

image

I caved on the craftsy Tula Foxfield class. I am a little skeptical because this is not a video class but a “workshop”. Hmm. Oh well, everyone else is doing it. Then while I was debating signing up they did a clearance on some of their fabric. I was only 11 dollars away from free shipping so rather than waste the shipping money, I tossed in a FQ pack. It was only $1 a FQ!! Oy. What am I going to do with all these precuts Craftsy keeps talking me into? What am I going to do with all those chevrons? Right now – looking pretty with the other precuts.

image

I also finally – FINALLY – bought the eyedrops I’ve been meaning to get to use for the binding on my Tula “houndstoothish” quilt (which still isn’t put together either). I had my eye on it in an online shop and realized they were selling out and wanted to grab it while I could. I also bought them out of the other two prints – both of which I already have yardage of – while I was at it. Well, what I thought was going to be a gold eye drop print turned out to really be much more of a green. It doesn’t show real well in the photos. Now I am not sure it is going to be what I want. I’ll make a decision when I get to that point. But at least I have it.

image

And Pink Castle ran a sale on Lizzy House. (well, Andover). Again, I already had both of these but had to grab them. I am about to use the twinkle in my next top so it doesn’t hurt to have more anyway, and the ghosts are just the cutest. I didn’t get bracelets, which I probably could use more than these, but, you know, trying to be good….

Sunday Stash – Shop Hop

This weekend is shop hop, and I am hopping the shops. I’ve shown a lot of restraint, gotten some things I’ve needed and caved on some unnecessary purchases. My biggest disappointment is that I have NOT found the fabric I need more of to back my bento quilt. I was really hoping I would. I have found a lot of other nice things.

Oh, Have I mentioned I have fallen in love? Like, love. L. O. V. E. Love. His name is Jason Yenter and he designs for In The Beginning. I don’t know what rock I have been under, but I decided the back I had picked out for my chevron wasn’t good enough and started searching and in my search came across Musings. I really want the print with the birds and large flowers, but at the first shop I went to I came across this in the sale room:

IMG_1753

So I bought a whole bunch of it.

And I just couldn’t resist the Saltwater. I should probably have bought yardage (I am seriously lacking the saltwater on my Tula shelf) but totally caved on a kit. I’ve never bought a kit before. I just couldn’t resist.

IMG_1757 IMG_1741

I’ve already cut out all the squares and this may be a stash bash project. It’ll make a great quilt for my parents’ Florida home.

Today while I was out I was informed one of my picks for Michele‘s Kate Spain swap was duplicated and I needed to repick. Luckily, one of the shops I went to had TONS of Kate Spain. Oh, I wanted to buy tons of it, but I am having a lot of spending guilt. So I was good and stuck to picking just one for the swap.

IMG_1776

Look familiar? I bought this exact print at this exact shop last year at shop hop for my bento top that I am currently trying to finish. A year later. We’ve come full circle.  This caused me to do a lot of reflecting that I am sure will be its own post soon. But I didn’t even know this was a Kate Spain print. I remember wondering if it would even work in the quilt. Isn’t that funny. I got a little extra so it may end up in my bento back too (the scrap I had left was too little).

I also found the treasure chest of Lemon Grove in their sale room. Also, very hard to resist. I picked up a couple yards of the tree print that I love.

IMG_1785

So, those are my shop hop purchases so far. That last shop forgot to give me my charm for making a purchase. 😦  I have three shops left. One is my regular shop and the other two are real country shops. One is actually in a feed store.

Sunday Stash

My mailbox has been overflowing this week. Here are some of my new additions –

I had seen this fabric during a Fabric.com sale and thought it would be great for my bento back, but then I got flu and missed it. A couple weeks later, it went back on sale for even less! I snatched it up. But, as seems to happen, 6 yards in stock really meant 2.5.

image

As long as I was buying, I also added these coordinating prints, which will not be going in my bento. I am not sure I will have any of the above left to coordinate with now, but when I ordered, I thought I was over ordering. Oh well. Still pretty.

image

Westminster Beachwood Park

And, of course, I can’t pass up Lizzy House on sale – especially twinkly lights.

image

Lizzy House Guising Asterisk

Next, I ordered these Moda prints (the two on the left) to supplement in my Bento back as well. The print on the right is one I used in my chevron quilt, and I really fell in love with it. I want to do another quilt just with it, and it is getting hard to find. So, when I found it at the same shop as the leaves, I grabbed it.

That’s enough for now!

Sunday Stash

I’ve been following a fabulous blog, Molli Sparkles. He does a weekly Sunday stash, and this is right up my, self -proclaimed fabric hoarder, alley. Why am I only just now finding out about this?!?

Well, I’ve bought about a billion dollars in fabric this month, but only one thing has actually come that I can show at this time. I fell victim to the Craftsy impulse sale. Who can resist Tula for $6 a yard?!? Seriously, I was completely defenseless. (Yeah, just wait til I show what’s to come. If I have the guts to cop to it).  Well, they had two color ways of the raccoons. I tried to get them at my LQS sale last month, but they were already out of them. I have no idea what I will ever use this for – like most of my fabric. It will sit on my ever widening Tula shelf looking pretty at me.

image

That’s 4 yards of the light blue and 2 of the dark. Yup. 2. separate. yards. Ugh. Oh well. Shoulda seen that coming. Warning for those of you who might someday find yourself pulling from the impulse endcap of the Craftsy sale – putting qty 2 does not mean continuous yardage!

Ok and I also found this in my cart as well –

image

There is no excuse for me. What the frig am I going to do with this? No idea. It looks very pretty on my shelf though. I’ve never bought precuts before. But it was on sale (my mantra) and I noticed in my February swap that I have exactly zero fabrics with anything heart related on them. I guess I felt I needed to fill a gap? I generally stay away from stuff like that.

My mailbox should be overflowing this week.

Cleaning

I am attempting to systematically go through each room of our house and declutter and purge, organize, etc. I work very very hard to keep my house below a certain level of clutter. I could so easily find myself on Hoarders if I ever let it go. But I am at a point where I feel like it is just too much stuff. When things are gathered everywhere, and can’t find places to put things, and I have clothes I’ve had for 20 years and 6 sizes, and we can’t park a car in the garage… you know. I need to do this.

I actually started in my bathroom. I didn’t finish, and I am sure that doesn’t thrill other people, so no pictures. 🙂 I did my vanity and under sink area. Still need to finish the drawers and the rest of the bathroom. I went through every bit of makeup and hair thing. I really tried to be brutal. I did have things dating back to highschool (or earlier). I know it is gross or outdated, but it is so against my nature to throw things away, I am really trying to purge though.

Then I headed into my closet. I do not have before pictures – and actually, my closet is oriented in a way where pictures at all are hard to get, but things had gotten to a point where I couldn’t even walk in there. I had just been throwing things into my closet, I had folded laundry, toys, sweaters, shoes, books etc, all over the floor. I took everything out of my closet and sorted and went through it piece by piece. I originally wanted to do it in a week, but it took the better part of the month. I tried so hard to be brutal. I got rid of a lot of shoes, and a decent amount of clothes and bags. Some of my clothes I did just move to the guest room – some of those “I’ll fit into this again” hopefuls and maternity clothes I still had hanging in my closet… you know, three years later, as a just-in-case. I could certainly still stand to get rid of more of all of it, but like I said, I have a hard time parting with things, and even just doing this much was a huge accomplishment.

IMG_1423

The bag pile… before. I might have a bit of a bag problem.

This is the best I can do for pictures... after

This is the best I can do for pictures… after

IMG_1473

Here is my closet now. The floor is completely clear, except for the stool, because I am freakishly short. I have tons of shelf space left. All those hangers used to have clothes on them, and there were more that were plastic that didn’t get put back. I used to have triple rows of shoes, and now it is barely one row. Very excited. I just hope it’ll stay this way.

I also finally got shelving for my sewing area. In hindsight, I could/should have gone with the 48″ shelves instead of 36″. Oh well. I may end up moving these above the tv and replacing them, but I could easily put 48″ shelves there too. I’ve only started to throw stuff up there, but it has already helped so much to get the clutter off my cutting table so I can better use it. I’ve also put some of my designer fabric up there to make room in my cubes for other fabrics, some scrap/charm bins, and some unfinished quilts are at the top. I am sure I will rearrange more in the future, but was trying to just get things out of the way for the time being. I went today to look for another small cube unit to mount on the wall for folded fabric, but they were out of it. LOL. I’ll take that as a hint to watch for the sale. Still quite a bit of plans in here too, but it is a start.
