Drowning in Fabric

Forever cleaning, organizing and creating

Sunday Stash

It’s been a while since I posted Sunday Stash. A lot has come through in that time. LOL. Here are some of my more recent additions…

I went a little overboard on the Craftsy New Year sale…

imageThis was the main reason for my purchase. I actually don’t have any moonshine in my stash. I really didn’t love it and there’s other stuff to buy. But when Craftsy marked down a complete fat quarter bundle to $55 I couldn’t pass that up!

imageI think we all know I have a bit of a crush on Ansonia. I had been hoping this would be the fabric for the new baby’s nursery, but alas, it is yet another boy. I never saw that coming, and this disappointment runs deep. But, Craftsy was selling these partial FQ bundles for $15 or so. I added them in the name of free shipping. I now have a half yard bundle, 2 partial fq bundles and several yardages. I need to find something to do with these soon! They are taking over.

imageThey also had kona solids for $3.60 a yard. You can’t beat that. And as we have learned previously, when they say yard, they mean a cut yard. So I did know I was getting one yard cuts. It still annoys me. But the 2 and 4 yard cuts were closer to $5 a yard. So, I sacrificed continuous yardage for the unbeatable price. I can easily use these yards in block piecing. You can also see on the right some TP Octos I got recently as well at $12 a yard.

imageThis is one of my new additions to my sewing room. I’ve gotten into the facebook yardsale groups and grabbed this up for $15 one day. It isn’t quite the size of the Closetmaid Cubicals so the fabric won’t fit standing up, but will lay flat. This is very heavy filled and I had to move it yesterday to pull out my cutting table and that was difficult. But I am running out of space in my sewing area. However, this did help me get a lot of fabric up off the floor.

Also of note in the two right hand cubes are many fabrics that I got at my LQS’s pre inventory clearance reduction sale. $2 a yard on the clearance room. No lie. I cleaned out several bolts. The Lotta Jansdotter squares will be featured next week in a quilt I made. 🙂

imagePerhaps the most exciting addition… A holiday gift from my mom. I am very excited and intimidated by my fancy new Juki. I’ll probably give it its own post soon….

imageAnd here is (some of) the fabric for the new baby’s room. I have put this off so long… When I had my first son, I was so excited to jump on making the nursery. This time I just don’t have that same excitement… It took a long time to even decide what to do and then to find and settle on some fabric for it. I’m still not really thrilled. I wanted some whales. I wasn’t able to stick to the color scheme I wanted. And these colors seem so similar to my son’s room…

The blue waves I got in the $2 sale. It’ll be the curtains. I cleared out the bolt – 8 yards. The sailboats I had to search hard for. I also got the crabs from the same line (Don’t be Crabby). I had basically given up on sewing at this point in my first pregnancy because I was so big and uncomfortable. I am only just about to get started this time. I am still doing ok (this is a smaller baby) as long as I sit frequently. Pressing and cutting can get hard on my back. But I have a lot to do and time is ticking down.

While I am not a die hard Denyse Schmidt fan, there certain prints that I love. When picking fabrics for my (failed) Supernova swap, I came across the Ansonia line and fell in love with the color palette. I decided I had to have it, even though it wasn’t our choice for supernova.

image

I did some searching and found some bundles hanging around on Etsy.  (Contrary to my posts here) Money has been getting tight around here, so I was trying to be good and hold off. Then one of the Etsy shops had a big sale AND free shipping. And I was good and did not order it. And then the sale went away. And I did some self-kicking. A few weeks ago, I was bidding on a rare Tula Pink Hushabye lot, and got outbid in the last few minutes. It was a “friendly” auction with people I “know” in a facebook group. I was mad. So I turned to Etsy and happened to find the shop was offering the same sale again! And they only had one bundle left.

I think you can guess how this story ends….

So that is my new half yard Ansonia bundle. I have no idea what I am going to do with it yet, but I have considered it for several different projects already.

Sunday Stash

First off, here is my fat quarter Far Far Away pack from Massdrop that I mentioned last time:

image

Also admire my new cutting mat. I had to get a new one because my old one warped on my trip back from Florida. 😦 Fortunately, Joann’s had a 50% off coupon waiting for me. I couldn’t remember when I got to the store what size my mat was, and the ones I thought it was looked too small. So I ended up accidentally upgrading. I now have a 36″ mat. And it is wonderful.

image

A friend of mine was destashing some (a lot) of her excess fabric due to life expenses. I grabbed up these cool prints. I tried to resist, but she gave a great deal, and it was for a good cause. There was more I wanted and didn’t get. 🙂

In keeping with yesterday’s post, I am sharing more pearl bracelets today! I got in on a massdrop bundle of tonal pearl bracelets. I was very excited to grab these.

image

Pearl bracelet is such a classic and versatile pattern and I think I like the tonal even better than the original.

image

It also included a set of the metallic prints.I think there were 15 prints included, so a couple must be hiding in this picture.

Sunday Stash: Far Far Away overdose

So, back when I was just getting back into sewing, and expecting my son, I hated all the sport/vehicle/tool stereotypical themes.  I was determined to do a fantasy theme nursery. After not finding anything suitable for purchase, I set out to make my own. This is when I first discovered some of my favorite designers. It was not an easy search finding what I wanted – sadly, in part because I didn’t know how to go about looking. It should have been an easier search than it was… I first came across Lizzy House’s Castle Peeps, which were just perfect for what I wanted. But it was missing two things- Dragons and Unicorns. I wanted a very specific kind of dragon – not a scary one, more fat and friendly, and one that would go well with Castle Peeps. I finally came across Timeless Treasures Happy Dragons. All that was left was the unicorn. This proved to be quite difficult. Especially since once I found exactly what I wanted, nothing else would do. Heather Ross’s Far Far Away. Which at that point was already extremely hard to find and expensive. I think I paid $30 for the yard I secured and it took me a long time to convince myself I should. (Some day I’ll learn I never regret buying fabric. Well, almost.) I also did end up with another 3/4 yard piece as well.

With these fabrics, I created my first complete quilt since I was 14 (and that was a mini). I chose a rag quilt because I was so insecure about quilting and binding. It looks a mess to me now, but I cover my son every night with it. I also made a bedskirt, sheets, curtains, and decorations. Some of it wasn’t done til well after he was born (I was wide as I was tall, and standing to work got very uncomfortable).

So, now that I’ve gone on and on about this, it is probably no surprise how psyched I was to learn FFA was being rereleased. First, Heather Ross offered a preorder on her site that I got in on (I got the Briar Rose preorder pack last year too).

image It is a full half yard pack with a print and pattern.

Then I used a frequent shopper coupon to snatch up some yardage at my LQS

imageAnd I also have a massdrop fat quarter pack coming my way.

A little overboard? Hmmm…..

Here are some more pictures of my son’s nursery… Though it’s evolved a bit in 3+ years…

IMG_0709(It was a race to get that embroidery done by his first birthday. I worked on it for months and was up all night the night before.)

Sunday Stash: Does this count?

I’ve been quiet on Sunday the last few weeks. That’s a good thing. I am making a true effort to cut back my spending. Not just on fabric but in other areas as well. My fabric buying was getting out of hand. Not only is that a drain on money, but also on my space. I love love love bringing in new fabric but I am truly overwhelmed when it takes over my floor, cutting table, and ironing board because I don’t have anywhere else to put it. Then that clutters up my ability to work an efficient manner.

Fabric’s been coming in…. but not like it was. And nothing I feel compelled to show off. I am trying so hard to purge and organize my house. I have gotten pretty motivated. But I am still a hoarder at heart and have a hard time parting with things. I will get to my fabric at some point, there are more pressing areas for now, but I hope that it will start to disappear in use in the meantime.

But today I got something I am very excited about.

image

I first was introduced to the Oliso iron at Stash Bash 2013. I seriously fell in love. I had every intention of running out and buying one as soon as I got back, but that was when my year of hell started and I couldn’t indulge.

image

This iron blows my 20 year old Sunbeam out of the water. It gives such amazing heat and steam. The thing lowers itself on its own when you touch it, then raises again when you let go so it doesn’t burn your ironing pad like I might be known to do from time to time.

image

It has a well with a spout for water and even comes with its own little pitcher to fill it with.

image

I haven’t used it yet. My son spent most of the day playing with it as if it were a truck. “vroom vroom”. He is also quite enamored of all the buttons and knobs. I have a feeling he will be learning real soon what I really mean when I say hot.

I got this in an amazing deal on Massdrop. This is a daily deal type site that has a remarkable amount of sewing deals AND free US shipping. They beat the sales at Joann’s by $20. So psyched. I love a deal.

I also got my fancy new Zumba shoes today, but I am guessing you don’t care about that. 🙂 On sale for $30 (not Zumba brand), I hope they work well because I am having a lot of full time foot pain from my Nikes.

*BTW – no part of this post was sponsored, just my honest gushing love. But if they want to become sponsors I won’t say no! LOL*

Sunday Stash: And now for something completely different

OK, First of all, I deserve a freaking medal for resisting this one this week:

image

And they had free shipping on top of that! I almost caved, but by that point most of it had sold out so I decided to just Let It Go!!

So, as I’ve mentioned in my “ignoring my deadlines” Wednesday posts, I needed to buckle down and figure out what I am doing about some of these swap projects I signed up for. I am not sure how much I can say (since it is a secret partner swap) but my schnitzel and boo mini quilt is at the top of the stress list. I thought it was a mid July deadline, but it isn’t. It’s the beginning of the month. So, using my partner’s likes and comments and changing my mind a lot, I finally chose a pattern – Jaybird Quilts Northern Lights. But I needed to get it!

So I packed up the kidlet and headed out to my LQS first thing Monday morning to see if they carry it. I knew they had the large pattern and ruler, so I hoped maybe they would have the minis as well. Well, they didn’t, but they could order it for me. So I had them do that and sweated the wait.

Thursday afternoon I picked them up. The clearance room is getting refilled (they wiped it out a couple months ago) and there are some good things in there, but nothing I was willing to jump on fabric wise. I’m trying to pretend to be good. However,  I did pick up a couple of clearance patterns.

image

Back in the day, before I had the guts to quilt, I used to make doll clothes. I loved the ModKid doll clothes patterns. I really don’t make real people clothes, but I thought the chef set would be darling for the kidlet someday when he is into dress up. And, you know, why not get the skirt? I’ll never make it. I don’t even know if it’ll fit. But there it is. I want to know what she is looking at with such hopeful amusement.

(Back in the day sewing)

They also have these fun buttons. I wanted some of them a few months ago, but didn’t get them and they sold out. So I grabbed a few this time. They are different sayings this time around, but I like these too.

image

And, here is the whole point of my post – My new mini patterns and mini ruler and a sneak peek at my mini quilt (in progress) –

And don’t forget to look for my mini quilt (and link yours!) in a future

Oh, Lord. Fat Quarter Shop needs to stop the flash sales. I can’t be trusted. This week (after resisting another flash buy) they listed Waterfront Park precuts.

image

I got 2 FQ packs and 4 charm packs. What am I thinking?!? I have an ever growing pile of precuts (both bought and swapped) that I Don’t Use!!! I need to start figuring out what people do with them.

image

I don’t know why I love this collection so much. I love the shades and the sundappled print. I bought some of the birds in different colors at my LQS when they had a sale a few months back, and they are featured heavily in my econoblocks. I am, though, quite disappointed that the FQ pack doesn’t have all the prints. I thought that was the point of them! It is missing the aqua (my fav) and I think the peach. I haven’t opened the charms yet, but it looks like they have all the colors.

image

I am linking up with Molli Sparkles, and don’t forget if you are a swapper to join my new swap linkup!

Sunday Stash

I got bit by the Memorial Day sales. Oops. First though, my fancy new pictures are courtesy tips from

Home v3

, who is also in the new blogger blog hop. As I told her, I am usually taking my pictures at 2am and just throw my fabric wherever. But she made me put more thought into it. I also took them in natural light, and I was skeptical because one of the days it was rainy out. I think they turned out pretty well, yeah?

image

First up, Fat Quarter Shop has been doing flash sales. I jumped in on this one. I love Patty Young. This is textured basics. Unfortunately, a couple sold out before I grabbed these, and the website auto entered .5 for the houndstooth, so I thought that was all they had, but they had more! 😦 Oh well. These are fun and I am loving the bright summer colors.

image

These next several are care of Equilter.com Memorial Day sales. (They take way too much of my money.) These are Alison Glass prints for a future swap. (There’s a hint 😉  )

Other Fun Cheap Stuff

Then, just after I was sure I was going to stop buying stuff for a while, Jimmy Beans Wool had a huge sale. Dudes, the Tula was selling out as I was putting it in my cart! And then I got a twinge of conscience and pared down my cart a bit. It’s been an expensive couple months – not including the fabric….

Here’s the Tula I got. I have all three of the Racoons now. I love those hummingbirds and originally had 2 yards of each in my cart, but cut it back to one.

image

And this is why I placed the order in the first place. Another swap buy. These are Kaffe shot cottons. I’ve never used shot cottons before. They are very thin (as I was warned) but very pretty. I am looking forward to the swap now and glad I am pre-prepared for it! 🙂

Oh, and Jimmy gets the award for fastest delivery! I think I ordered these two or three days ago and they came today!

Sunday Stash

Had to do the PO run again this week (book swaps, not fabric, this time). And, of course, that means dropping in on my favorite fabric shop. I honestly wasn’t expecting much because last week they did their big blowout clearance on a lot of their fabric and had dumped everything out together in big piles – cotton, upholstery, tulle, rayon, etc. Lots of damaged and not much cotton were left at $1/yd by the piece (I didn’t share all the stash buying that went down during that sale!). Usually once they do that, they bring out the upholstery rolls and I don’t see my designer cottons for months. I didn’t even bring in the baby’s snack and paci, I was so sure we were walking in and out. They had neatened up and brought out rolls of the upholstery, but still had two tables of quilting cottons, and they were cleaned out and replenished. Back to the “full price” of $3/yd. I actually like them doing it this way, and I hope they keep it up. Having just two tables cuts down both on my time spent digging there and potential money spent. I managed to find some good stuff too and spent about half what I thought I was, looking at the pile in my cart.

image

Lots of good Kate Spain finds this time. (I will forever kick myself for not buying that multiyard of purple Cuzco last year when I found it.)

image

And the Tula. Always Tula. Even some Foxfield!

image

Sarah Jane, Erin Morris, Masha D’yans (I’ve been meaning to get my hands on the bloom), Joel Dewberry, Denyse Schmidt, Beechwood Park and yet more Belle.

image

And the other fun Riley Blake/Michael Miller prints I couldn’t resist. (Needing yellow for my econoblocks.)

So, my son, who is usually quite good when I am shopping (as long as I ply him with food and iphone) happened to get worked up at one point. An older lady with an accent actually scolded me for bringing him! She said something like “This is why we didn’t bring our kids shopping.” (yeah, right!) I was like, “B, I have no where else to put him.” (without the B word 😉 But yay me for sticking up for myself.)  I mean, seriously, he is just 3 years old. What does she think I am gonna do – just leave him home alone? Or, you know, all us middle class housewives have fancy nannies at our beck and call? Please. That’s why I buy my fabric at the discount damaged and end of bolt warehouse. Where people bring their kids. *Sigh* This is my Karma, I am sure, for judging people before I was in this situation. It isn’t easy toting kids around or forcing them to behave. That’s why we don’t go places where it is necessary for him to behave! So I left my full cart there and dragged him out to the car, got his snack, paci and pulled out my iphone, and stayed away from her, and he was an angel the rest of the time.

I am excited to announce that I will be participating this year in Plum and June’s Let’s Get Acquainted New Quilt Blogger’s Blog Hop!

I follow several participants from previous years and we have some great people on the list for this year. June 4th is my hop date so be on the lookout.

Also, as it is a new month, I have my goal post and review and ALYOF goal coming (once I figure out what it is!) and updates on all my swaps’ progress.
